Pray For Japan, Support Japan

Description

There has been significant controversy surrounding the cosplay movement "Pray For Japan" on the Prayers from Cosplayers website. A lot of people think that it doesn't mean a lot to the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami because its already just as much of a subculture over there and it might go so far as to be insulting to them, or just insulting to think that showing off your cosplay is better then just donating 5 dollars.

There has also been cosplayers against cosplayers for showing more concern for their precious anime than for peoples lives. I think that is needless to say that that is very silly and the situation in Japan is one where we need to care less about our hobbies (or passions, or even jobs for some) and more about people dying and loosing homes.

I think its good/IMPORTANT to show that cosplayers from the northwest care and are thinking about their sister country/cities, but also DOING something about the disaster. We (:iconcliffnordman: and I) spent nearly two hours in cold Seattle weather to get this shot.

But aside from showing our concern I think financial action is really important. Seattleites!!!! PUT DOWN THE STARBUCKS AND DONATE TO THE EFFORT! I'm sick of people saying they have no money.

OF COURSE you have 5-15 bucks to spare. I don't have enough money for my hotel room for Sakuracon and I still donated. So get off your bum and please. PLEASE. Do something for someone other than yourself.

I'd just like to say that's a really great shot. I'm donating a little of my cash to help with the relief efforts. But part of me feels like some people are donating just because we get anime and video games from Japan. :/

A bunch of the other students in my biotechnology class were being jerks about the whole situation saying that we shouldn't help Japan because of Pearl Harbor and a bunch of other bullcrap, like the national debt. Basically, the whole class was cheering them on, and I was almost sent out for voicing my opinion against it. It's such a sad situation that we're too self-centered to give up a little of our time or money to help others. But that's just a part of being human I suppose.
